The Big Dig & Hidden Histories
The School of Irish Archaeology and Butler Gallery, co-ordinated by Kilkenny County Council Heritage office, will host the Big Dig & Hidden Histories workshops on Saturday 15th June. This event has been developed to celebrate the restoration and re-development of Evan’s Home as the new Butler Gallery site opening in 2020. Over the course of 800 years this area has had a fascinating history. It has been the location for an Augustinian Priory, a Jesuit College, a Military Hospital, a Military Barracks, an Asylum, an Infant’s School and an Old People’s Home. Through hands-on archaeology and storytelling workshops, children (ages 5 to 12) will uncover and explore the intriguing history and stories of this site.
Kilkenny Summer Fair
St Canice’s Cathedral & Round Tower will hold a summer fair on Saturday 15th June from 11am – 4pm with goodies for all the family. Admission: Adults €2, Children €1 (with an adult).
Irish Honey Bee Survey
Professor Grace McCormack of NUI, Galway and John Little of the Native Irish Honey Bee Society are conducting a survey, funded by the Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, on the Irish honey bee and they need your help. Native Crayfish threat
The Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht’s National Parks and Wildlife Service, along with the Marine Institute, have re-issued a warning to all water users in Ireland about the severe and increasing threat to our native Crayfish species. Rothe House Annual Garden Party
Kilkenny Archaeological Society will host their annual member’s garden party on Saturday 29th June from 3 – 5 pm in Rothe House gardens. Music, stimulating conversation and strawberries and cream will be available. Admission: €7 members, €10 non-members.
