Kilkenny Public Participation Network (PPN) is pleased to share that two of our working groups—the Environmental Linkage Group and the Social Inclusion Working Group— have submitted responses to the Kilkenny County Council’s Kilkenny County Heritage Strategy 2026-2030 discussion paper.

The Environmental Linkage Group focused its submission on protecting and enhancing Kilkenny’s built, natural, and cultural heritage, drawing attention to issues such as biodiversity loss, the pressures of modern development on historical streetscapes, dereliction and vacancy in the city centre, and threats to native habitats. Their recommendations call for stronger conservation measures, sustainable rural and urban planning, and better stewardship of both tangible and intangible heritage.

The Social Inclusion Working Group centered it submission on the importance of  embedding equity, diversity, and cultural representation in all aspects of heritage planning. It highlights the need to engage directly with underrepresented communities—such as migrants, Travellers, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities—and to ensure inclusive access to funding, resources, and participation in decision-making.
