What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) / Global Goals?

In September 2015, world leaders from 193 countries came together to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs became a framework to guide our social, economic and environmental actions to achieve a better future for all by 2030. As a result, everyone has a responsibility to make the SDG agenda a reality.

Who is Saolta?

Saolta is a Global Citizen Education partnership programme increasing awareness and action of the Sustainable Development Goals across Ireland.

A core component of Saolta is increasing awareness and action of the Sustainable Development Goals by facilitating monthly interactive SDG workshops across Ireland. These workshops aim to increase participants awareness of specific SDGs and support groups to integrate the SDGs into their practice and respective communities.

Ireland’s National Implementation Plan for the SDGs identifies the crucial role that Local Authorities have to play in translating the SDGs into practical action at a local level. Throughout it’s lifetime, Saolta will be working to support Public Participation Networks (PPNs) across Ireland in integrating the SDGs into County Development Plans. Saolta will also be supporting PPNs in mapping their goals to strategic SDG actions.

Saoltas partners include Development Perspectives, AONTAS, Cork ETB, Concern, Irish Rural Link, and the Dept. Adult and Community Education Maynooth University.
