The Irish Georgian Society is inviting applications to its Conservation Grants Programme 2017. A total of €50,000 is available - priority will be given to protected structures and recorded monuments of significant architectural merit. Moments with Monuments, a series of 5 minute radio programmes which highlight the stories behind some of the monuments and plaques in County Kilkenny, will be broadcast every Wed in 2017 (starting this Wed 1st February) on KCLR's 'The Way It Is' between 6 and 7pm. Conference: The Role Councils Can Play in Pollinator Conservation. Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Lurgan, Co. Armagh, 17th-18th Feb, 2017.
Day 1: Launch of new guidance on actions Local Authorities can take, and talks on successful examples of pollinator projects which Councils throughout the island are taking part in. We particularly welcome Council staff to attend this day, however all are welcome. Day 2: opportunity for everyone with an interest in pollinators to come together to learn about and discuss how we conserve these creatures in our own gardens and open spaces. Hedge/Tree cutting should only be carried out during the period from 1st September to end of February. This is so as to avoid harming birds and their nests. It as an offence under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976, amended by the Wildlife (Amendment) Act, 2000, to cut, burn or destroy any vegetation growing on uncultivated land or in a hedge or ditch during the period 1st March to 31st August (during the nesting and breeding season for birds and wildlife).
